Pedestal bowl with nude on a bed of zinnias
  Pedestal Bowl

Thrown and turned bowl with a ring of clay thrown onto the bottom to create pedestal, hand cut into torso shapes, the spiral additions are hand cut and applied in the leather hard stage. The inside is decorated with a large female nude lying on a bed of zinnias. The other sides are decorated with a star, a spiral, and the planet Saturn

I began making highly decorated bowls and vases and wanted to add more dimension to them with elements coming off the surface (spirals, leaf shapes, wings, etc.) Also the idea of something holding up and presenting the bowl appealed to me so I began with the idea of women holding up the central nude. This has evolved into other elements holding up pieces; i.e. elaborate banisters, circus type plinths, etc.
