"Woman at the Window" Platter
  Woman at the Window Platter

When I sat down to decorate this piece, I had been working on a number of shapes with female nudes and also a "new" pattern for part of a very special "one of a kind" dinner service. This is the repeating pattern on the edge, a combination of a motif Paco uses on the "feet" of his "Deco" vases and something inspired by Clarice Cliff's colorful earthenware of the 1930's.

Our then 11 year old son, Cole, who had been taking an interest in the progression of nudes appearing on his mother's pots, wondered what I would put in the background of this picture that had the woman surrounded by a white space and the border. I was not quite stumped, but open to discussion. Cole thought the woman should be in a bathroom WITH a towel around her waist. At last, he'd gone beyond the point of disgust at the sight of such immodesty!

I'm quite pleased with my first rendition of an interior space. Cole says if I'd only put a bunch of guys looking up at her he would have bought it himself.
